Bushy Park Dublin once again hosted the IPA Doubles on Saturday 16th September.
A dozen teams from all over Ireland competed for the perpetual trophy.
After the group matches and semi-finals it was a keenly fought encounter between Jack di Pizzo & Alain Robert and Gregory Novaresio & Vincent Boritault with the latter pair coming out on top.
Congratulations to the winners and to all who took part and thanks to Owen and the rest of the Park Petanque Club for their organisation of the event..
Ireland put up a tremendous performance to finish runner-up to a very strong Scotland A team in Melrose last weekend. The effort put in gives us great heart for when we welcome Scotland and Wales to Ireland for the 2018 event.
Congratulations to the 2017 Triples Winners – pictured below – Vincent, Gregory and Vincent kept the trophy at Park Petanque Club for another year at least.
Well done too to all the other teams taking part and PPC for their organisation on the day.
The 2017 Singles competition was held at a damp and windy Bushy Park on 18th March.
Players from Cork and Belfast joined the Dublin players for a good days sport despite the conditions. The two groups for the round robin stage saw all three Bretèches in the one group so it really was a family affair in that group with young Sylver coming out on top with 5 wins. In the other group there was also a clear winner when Stéphane Voinot, playing in his first IPA singles event, ran out a clear winner. [Stéphane has also been drafted into the Celtic Challenge team in place of Vincent Belingard who has had to drop out for work reasons.
The final was a closely fought affair in the early ends but Sylver managed to dominate the latter stages and ran out winner by 13 points to 6. congratulations to both players on their performance.
Our thanks once again go to Owen Kelleher and the Park Petanque Club for hosting the event.
Our photo shows Stéphane [left] and Sylver [right] being presented with their trophies by Owen – IPA Treasurer.
NB 18th March was also notable as the day the wheels came off the English Rugby chariot at the Aviva stadium. Well done to the 23 lads in green!
