Shooting for Ireland!

The last piece of the IPA Bulgarian jigsaw is now in place. In order to decide who would represent Ireland in the Shooting Competition in Albena in September a di Fusco ‘family shoot-out’ was held at a wet and windy Frankfield on 8th August.
Rene won by 30 points to Jim’s 20 [which included two shot jacks!] so we wish Rene all the best in the competition in Bulgaria in September as well as wishing the other members of the Ireland team every success in Ireland’sr return to the International Pétanque scene after an absence of a number of years.

Irish Team for Bulgaria

The team to represent Ireland at the 6th CEP Mens Triples championships, 19-22 September, will be Rene and Jimmy di Fusco, Terry Greene and Barra Ó hEireamhóin.
In the Precision Shooting event, being run at the same time, Ireland will be represented by either Rene or Jimmy who will be having a ‘shoot out’ during the coming weeks to decise which of them will be our entrant in this event.
Ched d’equipe and Coach for the Ireland team will be Denis Nightingale.
We wish them well in the IPA’s first European venture for some years.

Park Pétanque Club do it again!

For the third year in a row the doubles from Park Pétanque Club more than held their own against teams from the Ormeau and Frankfield clubs.
On a blustery but thankfully dry day in Ormeau Park the doubles of Jack Di Pizzo & Vincent Belingard and Terry Greene & Gregory Novaresio were just too strong for the Ormeau and Frankfield doubles. Both Park doubles won all 6 matches and in the ‘battle’ for top team it was the pair of Jack and Vincent who had a narrow 2 point advantage over Terry and Gregory.
Our thanks go to the Ormeau club for their organisation and hosting of the event- the hot food was particularly welcome during the lunch break – a thanks especially to Donna Sprat

European Championships, Bulgaria, September 2019

The European Mens and Veterans [over 55] championships will be held in Bulgaria 16-18 September for the Veterans Triples and 19-22 for the Mens Triples plus Precision shooting.
Any IPA Member interested in representing Ireland at either of these championships should let the Hon Sec know by 30th May 2019.
Should there be more than 3 players interested it may be necessary for the IPA Council to organise some form of qualifying event.
NB CEP/FIPJP rules do not allow non nationals to represent another country so it would appear that this event will only be open to IPA members who are holders of UK and/or Irish passports”

Scotland retain Celtic Challenge

Despite a gallant effort from Wales and Ireland Scotland were just too strong [again!] when it came to the recent Celtic Challenge held in Wales.
Utilising some of their players who had just returned from playing in a European competition to great effect they ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Congratulations to the Scots and commiserations to the Welsh and Irish players who put up a gallant, but in the end fruitless, effort to wrestle the trophy from our Caledonian cousins. Better luck next year.

2019 IPA National Triples Competition

10 triples were involved in this years IPA event in a sunny Bushy Park in Dublin on April 20th. After some excellent play by all teams the triple of Dawid Zydorek, Rory O’Neill and Stephen Hickey emerged as the winners.
Congratulations to all who took part and thanks to Owen Kelleher and the Park Petanque Club for hosting the event.
